Unbeaten Belorussian Vadim Vaskov (11-0) will face his toughest test to date when he meets GLORY veteran Chris “Bad News” Baya (59-8-1) on 8 July at the Fair Fight IX gala in Yekaterinburg, Russia.
Vaskov fights out of the Gridin Gym, the same dojo where Chingiz Allazov and Roman Kryklia train. He’s already achieved some notable victories, including decision wins against former KOK Lightweight Champion Vitalie Matei and Russian standout Saifullah Hambakhadov. The win against Hambakhadov was very close. In his last bout, he won a decision against Elkun Orujov.
Angola’s Baya has been in a slump recently. After starting his GLORY career with four consecutive wins, he went on a four-bout losing streak.
Baya unsuccessfully challenged Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong for the GLORY Lightweight Title at GLORY 50 in February 2018. He lost a unanimous decision to the Thai, and since then has lost split decisions to Josh Jauncey, Tyjani Beztati, and Marat Grigorian. Baya lost a bout in Romania recently to
fellow GLORY veteran Khaial “Hulk” Dzhaniev.
It’s a good test for Vaskov, and an impressive win could lead to opportunities on a bigger stage. Baya meanwhile can get back on track with a win, and be the first fighter to defeat Vaskov in the professional ranks.
