Glory 52 Update
Kickboxing Z previously reported Glory Sports USA was listed on the California Athletic Commission event schedule as the promoter for a March 31 event at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, California. On Tuesday, Glory sent out a press release that Glory 52 will indeed take place on that date in Long Beach. The location is the Pacific Room at the Long Beach Arena, an upscale venue that can seat anywhere from a few hundred up to 5,000, depending on the promoter’s seating plan.
Top ranked lightweight Marat Grigorian (51-10-2, 32 KOs) faces Stoyan Koprivienski (9-1 4 KOs) of Bulgaria, who fights out of Mike’s Gym. Grigorian has won six straight fights, and demolished Superbon Banchamek in the first round last weekend to win the Kunlun Fight 2017 70 KG Tournament championship. Koprivienski won a four man tournament at Glory 49. The Bulgarian stopped Maykol Yurk with a head kick knockout and won a points victory over Tyjani Beztati. The winner will be in line to fight for the Glory lightweight title, according to the press release.
van Roosmalen (39-7, 21 KOs), the reigning featherweight champion, returns to face interim champion Kevin VanNostrand (17-1 12 KOs). van Roosmalen has been out of action for a few months after an eye injury. VanNostrand, from New York, got off the deck to win the interim belt with a dramatic knockout over Anvar Boynazarov. This is a big step up for VanNostrand, as he hasn’t faced anyone nearly as accomplished as the two weight division champion from the Netherlands.
There is also a stacked four man middleweight tournament with ex champions Jason Wilnis (30-8-1 8 KOs) and Simon Marcus (47-4-2, 26 KOs) on opposite sides of the bracket. Marcus has to get past the lanky Yousri Belgaroui to earn a spot in the finals. Wilnis is matched up with Canada’s Robert Thomas. Tickets for the card go on sale to the general public next Monday February 12 at 10 am PST. Here is the card for Glory 52.
