Remy Bonjasky Speaks with Dynamite Fighting Show

Romanian promotion Dynamite Fighting Show caught up with three-time K-1 World Grand Prix winner Remy Bonjasky. Bonjasky will captain a team of five international fighters against a Romanian squad headed by Catalin Morosanu at the Dynamite Fighting Show event taking place on 27 September in Piatra Neamt, Romania.

Remy was asked about his best memory in the sport, his most difficult opponent, his advice to young fighters, and other questions. Here are excerpts, with the link below.

Dynamite Fighting Show: Which is the most beautiful thing you remember in your career from K-1 or something?

Remy: Well, there are a couple of moments in my career that I respect and I love the most. There was my first time in the ring fighting. The very first time I fought in the ring was against the brother of Alistair Overeem, Valentin Overeem.

The first time you step in the ring it’s something crazy. Your heart is beating. You’re sweating like hell. You’re thinking all things like you don’t want to lose. You’re very nervous.

So I have a lot of respect for myself that I had the courage to step into the ring.

Even though the K-1 final I won in 2003, 2004, 2008 were also very special. To get in that square, that 5 x 5 square, it’s something crazy. That moment I will not forget.

Dynamite Fighting Show: Team Morosanu vs Team Bonjasky-What can you say about it?

Remy: I think the fights gonna be spectacular. I think the fights gonna be hard. My team is good team but Morosanu’s team is also a good team. Anyone can win in a fight. Anyone can lose in a fight also. They just have to be focused, ready to fight on that day.

Bonjasky was asked if he’ll return to the ring to face Catalin Morosanu or another opponent.
Remy: I get that question a lot. I still feel fit. I still feel good. But I’m already 43 years old and there’s no way I’m coming back in the ring.

I’ve done it for more than 20 years and I think that it’s enough. No motivation.

I’ve taken a lot of risk with my right eye. Before I became champion, I already had my first surgery in 2002. Then the doctor said already you can’t enter the ring anymore. I said nope, I have a plan, I have a dream. I want to continue doing this until I accomplish my dream. So I did. I took a lot of risk. I took four operations. My eye is still good. Don’t want to take the risk anymore.

Message for Young Fighters
Remy: To all the young fighters that are coming up. To all those young girls and men that are coming up to fight in the ring. Keep your hands up. Try to stay focused. Train every day and train as hard as you can. If you wanna have the dream, try to accomplish the dream by training really, really hard. Let’s go.
