GLORY 65 Results

Revenge.

That would be probably be a good one-word summary of what transpired Friday at GLORY 65 in Utrecht, Netherlands, as two fighters won title bouts while simultaneously extracting payback on fighters who previously defeated them.

In the main event, Brazil’s Alex Pereira successfully retained his GLORY World Middleweight Title for the fourth time with an emphatic first-round stoppage over former champion Jason Wilnis.

Wilnis previously defeated Pereira twice, but Pereira made quick work of “Psycho”, who was fighting in front of a hometown Utrecht crowd at the Central Studios.

A Pereira high-kick got through Wilnis’s defense early in the bout. Wilnis went down and arose with a cut near the left eye.

Moments later, Pereira attacked with a jumping switch knee that dropped Wilnis for the second time. Referee Paul Nichols halted the bout with Wilnis dazed on the canvas.

Grigorian Floors, Beats Sitthichai

In the co-main event, Marat Grigorian finally got the monkey off his back with a unanimous points win over Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong, the Muay Thai maestro and longtime GLORY Lightweight champion.

Sitthichai held a 4-0 advantage in bouts between the two, but the Armenian finally scored a win and did so convincingly, as he knocked down the Thai with a left hook in the second round en route to a unanimous points win.

Grigorian is the new GLORY World Lightweight Champion. His first defense could be against Tyjani Beztati, the young Moroccan phenom who defeated Josh Jauncey earlier in the event in a match up of lightweight contenders.
