Glory 58 Superfight Series Results

Troy Jones won the Glory 58 Superfight Series welterweight (77 kg) tournament Friday night in Chicago. The former American college football player won the final without throwing a punch or kick. Fellow tournament finalist Mike Lemaire was unable to compete due to an injury, and reserve fighter Justin Moss wasn’t medically cleared to take Lemaire’s place.

Here are the results of the Superfight Series bouts:

Junior Tafa (AUS) def. Haze Wilson (USA)-TKO 1 Heavyweights
Tafa made quick work of Wilson in the heavyweight feature bout. Wilson came out firing leg kicks and throwing hard shots. Tafa found a home for his right hand over the top and looked to land knees. Wilson threw an uppercut, and a Tafa counter right hand dropped the Oklahoma fighter. “The Hooligan” beat the count, and told the ref he wanted to continue, but he was shaky on his feet and ref Dave Smith waved the fight off. Official time was 1:35. Tafa improves to 19-3(15). Wilson slips to 28-4(23).

Matt Baker (USA) def. Thomas Jenkins (USA)- KO 3 Middleweights/85 kg
Baker got the better of the less experienced Jenkins, wearing him down and finishing him in round three. Much of the bout was fought in close. By the latter stages of the second round, Jenkins nose was bloodied and his eye appeared to be bothering him. A Baker right dropped Jenkins late in the round. In round three, Baker dropped him twice more with punches, the second time Jenkins couldn’t beat the count. Baker improves to 22-6 with 1 No Contest, 10 by stoppage. Jenkins is now 3-2(3 KOs).

Troy Jones (USA) def. Casey Greene (USA)- KO 1 Welterweight Tournament Semifinal 2/2
Jones looked sensational in stopping veteran Greene in one minute. Jones came out and fired a hard kick to the body, and connected with a right during an exchange. Soon after, he dropped Greene with a left hand when the two exchanged jabs. Greene got up and the fight was soon over after a Jones high kick dropped Greene for the second time. Jones improved to 10-1(9) with the win. Greene is now 5-10(2).

Mike Lemaire (USA) def. Omar Moreno (USA)-Unanimous Decision Welterweight Tournament Semifinal 1/2
The “French Rock” Lemaire made a successful debut as a welterweight, hammering out a unanimous decision over Moreno. Lemaire, who used to campaign a middleweight, pressured Moreno and hurt him with a knee to the body late in round one. In round two, Lemaire dropped Moreno with a knee to the body during the clinch. Moreno had the better of round three but it seemed like Lemaire relaxed, aware he was ahead on points. Scores were 29-27 three times and 30-26 twice.
