Longtime fans of kickboxing remember the “good old days” when eight-man single-night tournaments were a lot more common.
Sadly, the sport seems to be moving away from tournaments more and more, with a number of organizations even scrapping the four-man format.
The good news is there’s an eight-man heavyweight tournament this Saturday night, and it’s being broadcast by UFC Fight Pass as U.S. kickboxing pioneer Dale “Apollo” Cook and his XFN organization hold their latest event at the River Spirit Casino in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The tournament lineup is an interesting ensemble of local kickboxers and MMA fighters, and a couple of guys who partake in bare-knuckle boxing. In addition to XFN regular and GLORY veteran Haze “The Hooligan” Wilson, the announced competitors include King of the Cage and BKFC veteran Tony Lopez and another “bare-knuckle fighter” Eric Lunsford.
Rasheem “Megatron” Jones, who upset Wilson via decision at XFN 359 in June, is also scheduled for action in the tournament, along with Daniel Gallemore, Chris Barnett, Jefe Hodges, and Darion Abbey.
XFN 363 also includes some MMA bouts, and former UFC champion and Bellator veteran Frank Mir is a special guest.
