Brazilian promotion WGP Kickboxing announced its next event will take place in Chile, a first for the promotion.
WGP #54 takes place on 24 May at the Estacion Mapocho in Santiago, the nation’s capital.
A Brazil vs Chile title bout headlines the event. The WGP Cruiserweight Title (85.1 kg) will be on the line when champion Cesar Almeida of Brazil defends his title for the first time against top ranked contender Ivan “El Terrible” Galaz.
Almeida captured the previously vacant title with a fourth-round stoppage against Lucas Alsina last October. Alex Pereira, the current GLORY Middleweight Champion, formerly held the belt but vacated last year.
Galaz earned a title shot when he defeated Fabio Alberto and João Pedro Simão by decision at WGP # 51. The Chilean fighter fought on the GLORY 63 Superfight Series card in February, where he lost a split decision to Joe Taylor of the United States. Galaz is 1-1 in GLORY, and a veteran of nearly 70 professional fights.
