WGP Kickboxing announced yesterday the promotion will hold a four-man cruiserweight tournament at WGP #51. WGP #51 takes place on Saturday November 24 in Brasilia, Brazil.
The tournament winner will be in line to face newly crowned WGP cruiserweight champion Cesar Almeida. Almeida won the vacant belt with a fourth round stoppage over Lucas Alsina last month. The title was previously held by current GLORY middleweight champ Alex Pereira, who officially vacated the title to set up the Almeida-Alsina clash.
Three Brazilian fighters are in the tournament field: Fabio Alberto, Maycon Silva, and Joao Pedro. Ivan Galaz of Chile will also participate, and faces Pedro in the semifinals. Galaz was scheduled to compete on last week’s Glory card in New York against Joe Taylor, but the fight was scrapped because of visa issues.
A women’s title bout has also been announced for the fight card. Val Stanski meets Barbara Nepomuceno in a fight for the WGP Women’s Super Middleweight Title.
