Fans of female kickboxing tournaments are in for a treat next month.
WGP Kickboxing, the top kickboxing organization in South America, today announced a four-woman 60 kg tournament for the WGP 56 event taking place on 2 August in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Brazil’s Diana Leda, Yanet Maestrojuan and Andrea Salazar from Argentina, and Colombian Diana Solano will do battle with the winner presumably at the front of the line to face WGP Lightweight Champion Mariza “Nina” Loch.
Both Argentine women have won national titles in their country. Salazar won a WAKO K-1 Rules Title in Argentina, and defeated current champion Loch back in 2017. Maestrojuan has also held titles in Argentina, but in Muay Thai.
Colombian Solano has won a couple of amateur titles in her country at WAKO (World Association of Kickboxing Organizations) tournaments.
In addition to the four-woman tournament, two title fights were previously announced by the organization. WGP Middleweight (71.8 kg) Champion Bruno Gazani defends his belt against hometown fighter and top contender Damian Segovia. The WAKO Pro Title is also on the line in that match.
In an all-Argentine bout for the WGP Men’s Lightweight Title (60 kg), Leo Corrales faces Facu Suarez. The fighters are ranked second and third respectively in the organization’s rankings.
WGP events are available for international viewers with English commentary on a pay-per-view basis via Fite TV.
