Weekend Preview 15-17 June

K-1 June 17 Poster

June has been off to a great start, with GLORY Kickboxing, Kunlun Fight, and Enfusion all running shows. This weekend is a little quieter.  The big event on the calendar this week is Sunday’s K-1 extravaganza at the Saitama Super Arena in Tokyo. UFC Fight Pass will broadcast the Friday Night Fights show featuring Ognjen Topic, and Muay Thai Grand Prix has an event in Athens that will be streamed on Elite Boxing.

Topic vs Martinez Friday
Ognjen Topic returns to Friday Night Fights after his impressive win over Stergos Mikkios at the ONE Super Series. Topic faces Spain’s Miguel Martinez in the main event. As of last night, UFC Fight Pass had not posted the whole lineup for the stream. The UFC Fight Pass stream of Friday Night Fights is scheduled to begin at 10pm EST/7pm PST.

MTGP 15 to Stream on Elite Boxing TV Saturday
MTGP is a British promotion that partners with Lion Fight on the Las Vegas based promotion’s events in Europe. MTGP also promotes their own events, and they have shows scheduled this month in Athens, Greece and Birmingham, England. MTGP 15 takes place on Saturday in Athens, and will feature both kickboxing and Muay Thai fights, with a 4 man K-1 rules tournament at the 80kg weight limit. The evening’s main event is a bout for the KGP 72.5kg title (kickboxing) between Greece’s Meletis Kakoubavas and Mitch Farel of France.

K-1 Featherweight Grand Prix Sunday
K-1 returns to the legendary Saitama Arena in Tokyo with another huge show Sunday. Including the prelims, there are a total of 19 fights scheduled. An eight man featherweight tournament tops the bill, but there are other notable matches. Veteran Yasuhiro Kido faces Massaro Glunder of the Netherlands in a welterweight super fight. Glunder is a Mike’s Gym fighter who won his bout at the GLORY 51 Superfight Series in March. Bellator MMA veteran Kato Hisaki is best known for his knockout wins over Joe Schilling in both MMA and kickboxing. Kato laces up the gloves and faces Makoto in a heavyweight (90kg max limit) super fight. Japanese standout Noiri Masaaki is also scheduled to see action. Here is the fight card.
