The King in the Ring organization held its latest eight-man K-1 rules tournament in the super cruiserweight weight category this weekend in New Zealand.
King in the Ring is probably best known outside New Zealand for being the organization where Israel Adesanya won titles before he switched to MMA. Adesanya won three tournaments promoted by King in the Ring before he competed for GLORY in 2016 and 2017. Adesanya is currently a UFC contender.
Carlos “Black Jag” Ulberg won Saturday’s tournament at King in the Ring 92II.
Ulberg, fighting out of the same City Kickboxing gym in New Zealand as Adesanya, defeated Julius Poananga, Nato Laauli, and Fou Ah-Lam to claim the title. He won all of the bouts by stoppage.
The win is the second tournament title for Ulberg, nicknamed “Black Jag”.
The fighter previously won an event in the 100 kg weight category in 2017.
