Japanese kickboxing sensation Tenshin Nasukawa, the 20-year-old reigning RISE champion, will fight legendary boxing superstar Floyd “Money” Mayweather December 31 in Japan. Boxing news website Boxing Scene reported the news this evening.
According to the article, the “format and rules” have not been determined by the relevant parties. The super fight will be part of the RIZIN FF promotion’s annual New Year event.
Nasakawa recently defeated MMA fighter Kyoji Haraguchi by decision in a bout held under kickboxing rules. The match generated a lot of attention, and was likened as a “Japanese version of Mayweather vs McGregor”. Nasukawa is currently Japanese kickboxing’s top young talent, and grew into a star with exciting performances.
The 41-year-old Mayweather has never fought in kickboxing or MMA. He’s 50-0 in pro boxing, and surpassed the seemingly untouchable record of the legendary Rocky Marciano with an entertaining late-round stoppage of boxing novice Conor McGregor last year.
One thing is for certain. The attention of the fight world will head east to Japan on 31 December to witness if nothing else, a spectacle.
