Tatneft Cup 2019: 11 June Results

The Tatneft Cup 1/8 Finals: 4th Stage took place Tuesday in the city of Kazan in the Russian Federation. The event was broadcast internationally on FightBox HD and Match TV in Russia.

Two-time champion Sher Mamazulunov advanced with an extra-round decision against Bilal Bakhouche.

Zhora Akopyan surprised 2018 finalist Vladislav Ukrainets. The Armenian fighter landed a big left punch in the extra round, and won a close decision to advance to the next stage of the tournament.

Tatneft Cup bouts are scheduled for three rounds. If the fight ends with neither fighter winning by knockout or scoring a knockdown of their opponent, an extra round is required.

-70 kg: Zhora Akopyan def. Vladislav Ukrainets (Russian Federation)-Extra Round Decision
Akopyan landed a big left hook that hurt Ukrainets in the extension round, and was voted the winner in a close, tough and technical battle.

-80 kg: Giannis Manolas (Greece) def. Yago Gedenidze (Georgia)=Extra Round Decision
Greek southpaw Manola landed a good front kick to the face in round one. Both fighters landed some clean shots during exchanges. Manolas appeared to injure his left leg in round two. Neither fighter scored a knockdown, so an extension round was automatic.

In round four, the fighters both landed. Gedenidze, representing Team Davit Kiria, landed some good punches and low kicks. Manolas was the aggressor and looked to score with punches and attempted some high kicks, a couple landed partially.

The judges favored the aggressor Manolas in a very close bout.

+80 kg: Valery Bizyaev (Russian Federation) def. Florent Kaouachi (France)-Advantage by Knockdown
Bizyaev scored a third-round knockdown with a big right hand to earn the victory after three rounds. Kaouachi came forward and landed low kicks effectively throughout, but was hit by some clean punches by Bizyaev. Bizyaev looked to be weakening from the low kicks in round three before the knockdown.

-70 kg: Maxim Sulgin (Russian Federation) def. Lado Gabisonia (Georgia)-Extra Round Decision
Sulgin was the busier fighter, and mixed his punches, kicks, and knees nicely. Gabisonia landed some good punches to the head and body, but was outlanded by Sulgin. The decision was awarded to Sulgin after neither fighter scored a knockdown or knockout during the three rounds and extra round.

-80 kg: Sher Mamazulunov (Uzbekistan) def. Bilal Bakhouche (France)-Extra Round Decision
Mamazulunov, the two-time and reigning 80 kg Tatneft Cup champion, got the better of Bakhouche to win the decision after four rounds.

+80 kg: Valentin Ponthieux-Anicet (France) def. Yan Petrovich (Russian Federation)-Advantage by Knockdown
Petrovich came out and swarmed the bigger Ponthieux-Anicet, who covered up and threw a high kick-right combination that dropped Petrovich.

The Russian fighter kept up the attack on Ponthieux-Anicet throughout the bout, and landed some good shots to the body and upstairs. He couldn’t knock down the Frenchman, who scored with some good low kicks. Ponthieux-Anicet had the advantage after three rounds because of the knockdown.
