Sunday’s ACB KB 17: Land of Great Victories event in Pskov, Russia featured a few bouts that can be considered upsets. Kunlun Fight 66 75kg tournament winner Vitaly Gurkov was defeated by second round stoppage against hard-punching Jonatan Oliveira of Brazil. Once-beaten prospect Beybut Isaev was outpointed by tough Alexander Grinchuk.
French veteran Djibril “Grizzly” Ehouo, a former Bellator title challenger with a record of 66-4, was also surprised. Russian fighter Maxim Sulgin threw a high volume of shots to outscore Ehouo to a decision victory. Sulgin had an unexceptional ledger of 7-2 entering the match up and is unknown to most fans.
ACB Kickboxing spoke to Sulgin after the bout. The Russian fighter said feelings of patriotism inspired him to victory.
“the fight was heavy, soggy. Felt great responsibility in front of him. Very happy with the victory! The Pskov audience was well supported, on such a great land boxing was very great. I’ve been thinking about our ancestors, about how they fought here and I’ve been giving this strength in the ring. The organization was good, I liked it all!”
