Dutch martial arts website Vechtsport Info NL reports rumors are circulating GLORY World Heavyweight Champion Rico Verhoeven will fight a rematch with Badr Hari in June.
The fighters faced one another in December 2016 in Oberhausen, Germany where Verhoeven defeated the Mororccan “Bad Boy” by TKO due to an arm injury sustained by Hari.
Since then, Verhoeven has made three successful title defenses and won non-title bouts against “Bigfoot” Silva and Ismael Lazaar.
Hari meanwhile spent some time in the hoosegow for assaults, but returned to competition last year with a decision win over old rival Hesdy Gerges at GLORY 51 last March.
Hari has not fought since.
According to the article, the rematch will likely take place in June in Arnhem, Netherlands, and “various sources” (translated) informed the website of these details.
Meanwhile, questions remain about the competition status of Hari. A January report by Dutch TV program Nieuwsuur stated Hari, Gerges, Mladen Brestovac, and Ariel Machado tested positive for banned substances during doping tests and faced suspension.
If this fight is indeed finalized, it figures to be a lucrative venture for all involved. Both fighters have large fan bases, and the event will likely generate a large amount of pre-fight publicity in the Netherlands with both fighters recognizable to the general public.
