On 27 July, the Kunlun Fight promotion holds its next event in China, and the promotion officially announced former GLORY Lightweight Champion Andy “The Machine” Ristie will debut for the organization at the event. Kunlun Fight announced Ristie’s debut on its English social media page Sunday.
Ristie signed with the organization earlier this year, and his debut for the organization has been anticipated by fans.
The 37-year-old hasn’t fought since a unanimous decision loss to Robin van Roosmalen at a GLORY event in 2015.
In the bout’s aftermath, Ristie and GLORY parted ways, and rumors periodically surfaced of a Ristie ring return but they never materialized.
Ristie is known for one of the greatest tournament performances in the sport’s history. At Glory 12 in November 2013, “The Machine” knocked out legend Giorgio Petrosyan and elite Dutch fighter Robin van Roosmalen in the same night to win the GLORY Lightweight Championship Tournament.
He lost the belt in his first defense to Davit Kiria. Ristie punched himself out and was stopped in the fifth round by the durable Georgian.
The fighters the Suriname native has defeated include Petrosyan, van Roosmalen, Albert Kraus, Gago Drago, Hinata, and Enfusion stars Nordin Ben Moh and Jonay Risco.
Kunlun Fight did not announce Ristie’s opponent for his debut.
