Former It’s Showtime and Glory fighter Tyrone Spong failed a drug test and was removed from his 12 October boxing match with Oleksandr Usyk, according to The Athletic boxing writer Mike Coppinger.
Spong, once regarded one of the best kickboxers in the world pound-for-pound, left kickboxing after he injured his leg during a 2014 loss to Gokhan Saki at GLORY 15 in Turkey. He turned pro as a boxer a year later. Spong has put together an impressive 14-0 (13 KOs) against modest opposition while campaigning in the heavyweight division. The bout with former undisputed cruiserweight champion Usyk was to be his first major test as a boxer.
More bad news for “King of the Ring” Spong, who was recently charged with “with allowing his pet cougar to escape” from his Florida residence.
