GLORY Middleweight Champion Alex “Poatan” Pereira contemplated a move to MMA last year, but recently announced he signed a new contract with the organization.
It turns out the Brazilian fighter may still be able to fight in MMA under his new agreement with the GLORY organization.
The MMA Fighting Website reports Pereira’s new contract permits the fighter to compete in Mixed Martial Arts competition on the condition he receives “written permission from GLORY in advance”.
Pereira told the MMA site he is “really happy with my new contract and I will continue to defend my Glory world middleweight championship for a long time to come.”
He also said he prefers former champion Jason Wilnis to be his next opponent. Wilnis defeated Pereira by unanimous decision at GLORY 20 in April 2015, and also defeated the Brazilian by stoppage at an It’s Showtime event in 2012. Pereira has already defeated number one and number two contenders Yusri Belgaroui and Simon Marcus twice.
