ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong announced today the result of the ONE Featherweight Kickboxing Grand Prix quarterfinal between Giorgio Petrosyan and Petchmorrakot Petchyindee has been changed to a no-contest.
Muay Thai champion Petchmorrakot defeated Petrosyan by decision in their three-round kickboxing bout last Friday. After getting put on the back foot by Petrosyan early in the contest, the Thai started to neutralize Petrosyan by using the clinch.
Petchmorrakot’s tactical adjustments paid off with a decision win. According to Sityodtong, the referee erred in allowing some of the clinching used. Because of the referee’s mistake, the bout is now a no-contest and the fighters must meet in a rematch.
“ONE Championship has conducted an official review of the controversial bout between Giorgio Petrosyan and Petchmorrakot Petchyindee at ONE: Enter The Dragon in Singapore. In fairness to all parties, the ONE Competition Committee has formally declared the bout a no contest. The referee did not adequately control the illegal clinching, resulting in multiple infractions during the bout.
There will be an automatic rematch with the winner proceeding into the semifinals of the US$1m ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Grand Prix,” Sityodtong wrote on Facebook.
