Last Friday, One FC announced more fighter signings for the upcoming ONE Super Series. The ONE Super Series will consist of bouts fought both in a ring or cage with “striking-only” rules, which likely means that elbows will be allowed in at least some if not all of the fights in the series. The first ONE Super Series bouts are slated for April 20 in Manila, and the headline fight is between former K-1 Max Champion Giorgio Petrosyan and Thailand’s Jo Nattawut. Petrosyan was already announced as a signee for the new promotion along with Nattawut, Fabio Pinca, and Yodsanklai Fairtex.
The most recent signees include Brad Riddell of Australia. Riddell beat Fernando Groenhart of Mike’s Gym by decision at Powerplay 36 in Australia a few days ago. Riddell will face Regian Eersel of the Netherlands. Other new signings include Enriko Kehl, Cosmo Alexandre, and former Its Showtime champion Chris Ngimbi.
No information was released on whether these are exclusive contracts. That would be highly unlikely unless ONE Super Series is going to hold multiple events and is guaranteeing each fighter a certain amount of fights per year. If you total up the amount of fighters signed by the Singapore based promotion thus far, they have already signed 28 fighters. That’s a pretty good amount, but many of them are Muay Thai fighters or guys who’ve seen their better days. It will be interesting to see if the promotion plans a tournament or a single elimination series to crown champions. I’m also curious to see if any of the matches will be held under K-1 or kickboxing rules, and if they are going to try and sign some of the top Chinese or Japanese fighters to fight in the Super Series. As far as tournaments go, the Kunlun Fight 16 man tournament at 70kg is the biggest striking tournament around currently.
