Singapore-based promotion ONE Championship became a big player in the sport of kickboxing this year. In April, the organization launched its ONE Super Series, a series of kickboxing and Muay Thai bouts held on ONE Championship MMA events.
ONE coupled their expansion into the world of stand up fighting with a signing spree that included some of the biggest names in kickboxing and Muay Thai. Former K-1 Max Grand Prix champions Giorgio Petrosyan and Andy Souwer, Muay Thai legend Yodsanklai, and former GLORY champion Nieky Holzken are just some of the stars now competing in Super Series bouts on ONE events.
Yesterday, ONE Championship founder and CEO Chatri Sityodtong made another big announcement: a tournament will be held in 2019 featuring eight elite kickboxing and Thai boxing champions.
I'm thrilled to announce the 2019 ONE Super Series Featherweight World Grand Prix with 8 of the greatest strikers on the planet! In this tournament, every single fight is World Champion vs World Champion. BOOM!!! #WeAreONE pic.twitter.com/QKZtUw7K2j

Eight top fighters will compete in the event:
Yodsanklai IWE Fairtex
Phetmorrakot Petchyindee Academy
Souwer is already scheduled to face Yodsanklai at One’s Japan event on 31 March in Tokyo, so it’s likely that bout serves as a first round tournament match up.
“Mr KO” Signs With One Championship
In other ONE news, Romanian standout Andrei “Mr KO” Stoica has signed with the organization. Stoica announced the deal on social media today. Stoica, a former SUPERKOMBAT champion, is the first Romanian fighter signed by ONE.
Stoica will continue to compete in Romania under the Dynamite Fighting Show banner. According to the announcement, Stoica signed a multi-fight contract for 2 years with ONE.
“I always said I am proud to carry the Romanian flag on the highest peaks, and now I am extremely proud to be given this opportunity, to fight on the highest level. Thanks for the support and Go ROMANIA!!,” Stoica said in his statement (translated).
Japan TV Deal Announced
Sityodtong also tweeted today ONE has a new broadcast partner in Japan. TV Tokyo, “one of Japan’s major free-to-air TV broadcasters”, will air ONE Championship programming “on a weekly basis across all platforms”.
Earlier this month, ONE announced it reached a deal with American broadcasting giant Turner. ONE events will stream live on the new B/R streaming service owned by Turner, with content also airing on the TNT cable and satellite channel.
