News and Notes: Badr Favored Over Hesdy in Rematch, PowerPlay 36, New WBC Muay Thai Super Heavyweight Champion

It’s fight week for Glory 51, the biggest kickboxing event of the year so far. We’re a few days away from the rematch eight years in the making, with Badr Hari returning to the ring against old rival Hesdy Gerges.  Meanwhile, there’s a show in Melbourne, Australia Friday night.

Badr Big Favorite With Books

MMA OddsBreaker has a couple of lines posted for Saturday’s fight between Badr and Hesdy, and Badr is between a -335 and -350 favorite with 5 Dimes and SportsBet respectively.  Gerges is +250 and +265. No odds are posted yet for the Cedric Doumbe-Alim Nayibev welterweight fight that headlines the Glory 51 Superfight Series or any of the welterweight tournament fights.

Powerplay 36 Friday in Australia
Fight News Australia did an interesting piece on the upcoming Fernando Groenhart-Brad Riddell fight that takes place Friday night in Melbourne. Riddell has 56 wins and only 8 losses, and is a well regarded Australian talent. Groenhart meanwhile has over 70 wins and fights out Mike’s Gym like his brother, former Glory welterweight champion Murthel Groenhart. Unfortunately, it’s yet another pay per view event. Boughanem wins WBC Muay Thai Super Heavyweight Belt Phoenix Fighting Championship 5 took place Monday in Bangkok. In one of the fights on the card, Morocco’s Yassine Boughanem won a decision over Steven “Panda” Banks of the U.S. to win the WBC Muay Thai Super Heavyweight title.
