Friday Flurries: Enfusion, Glory, KOK, ONE Championship

There’s been a lot of announcements this week from various promoters and management. Here’s some news and notes you may have missed.

Enfusion Titles on the Line in China

On August 31, a week from Saturday, Enfusion and Wu Lin Feng will join forces for a big event in China.

Two Enfusion title fights are scheduled.

In a bout for the Enfusion Men’s 57 kg Title, top Chinese fighter Wang Juang will meet Jorge Varela of Spain. Frenchman Franck Gross was the reigning division champ but is injured, according to a statement released by Varela’s management.

The Enfusion Men’s 60 kg Title will also be at stake when top-ranked Zhao Chenglong battles Pietro Doorje, fighting out of the Netherlands. The title was previously held by Ilias Ennahachi, who now competes for the ONE Championship organization and is the reigning ONE Flyweight Kickboxing Champion.

GLORY: Re-Signs “Wonderboy”

Dutch-Moroccan lightweight contender Tyjani Beztati announced on Instagram Thursday he signed a “new long term deal” with GLORY Kickboxing.

Nicknamed “The Wonderboy”, the 21-year-old has already challenged for the GLORY Lightweight Title. Beztati challenged then-champion Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong for the GLORY Lightweight Title in May 2018, and started well before the Thai took control of the bout to earn a unanimous decision.

Beztati has rebounded from the defeat with three consecutive decision victories, defeating Christian Baya, Stoyan Koprivienski, and Josh Jauncey. The win over Jauncey took place at GLORY 65 in May.

Beztati is currently the second-ranked lightweight contender in the GLORY rankings behind Sitthichai. Marat Grigorian is the organization’s current lightweight (70 kg) champion.

KOK: Turkey Event Added

Top Turkish fighter and official KOK Turkey Representative Mr. Erkan Varol announced KOK will return to the Hendek Bayraktepe Arena in Sakarya for another event taking place on 30 August.

The KOK Fight Series in Turkey has been a big hit. Literally. The events have produced some exciting fights and big knockouts, and have drawn lots of fans to both the arena and in front of their television sets.

Iranian warrior Masoud Minaei, who has fought for many of the world’s top kickboxing organizations, returns to the KOK ring versus Abdullah Kaplan.

Minaei is 3-0 (2 KOs) in KOK competition this year. He defeated Yusuf Memedov by decision in a Muay-Thai rules bout, and scored stoppage wins against Poland’s Kamil Pawlak and Dutchman Kevin Hessling. The first-round high kick KO of Hessling earned Minaei the WKU European 75 kg Title.

Kaplan, nicknamed “The Tiger”, improved his record to 12-3 (5 KOs) with a unanimous decision win against Murad Esedov of Azerbaijan at the KOK: Russia vs Turkey event in July.

ONE Signs Spanish Sensation

ONE Championship continues to sign young talents from across the globe. In recent months, they have signed up and coming talents from Belarus, France, Holland, and now Spain. On Thursday, it was announced 18-year-old Spaniard Alejandro “El Puma” Rivas signed an exclusive two-year “Multi Fight” contract with the promotion. The announcement was made by Rivas’s management.

In other ONE news, CEO Chatri Sityodtong earlier this week announced the appointment of top Italian promoter Carlo Di Blasi as the new president of ONE Championship Italy. Di Blasi has promoted the popular Oktagon fight cards in Italy featuring the legendary Giorgio Petrosyan.

According to Sityodtong’s post, Di Blasio “will be responsible for leading all of our efforts in Italy (and Europe) and will also spearhead execution with our partners across the entire ecosystem. Together, we will work tirelessly to lift up and grow all of martial arts in Italy and the rest of Europe.”
