Mix Fight Events returned to Bilbao, Spain for Mix Fight 41 Saturday.
The event featured plenty of K-1 rules action, with two ISKA title fights headlining the event.
Local hero Sergio “Dinamita” Sanchez is the new ISKA K-1 Rules 70 kg World Champion. Sanchez defeated Soufiane Ait Ouccime by split decision in a hard-fought battle over five rounds.
The bigger Ait Ouccime, fighting out of Belgium by way of Morocco, seemed to have the edge early. He received a caution for illegal clinching in round two, and was given a yellow card in the fourth after another rules violation.
Sanchez was the quicker fighter and had more energy late in the fight. He landed a good left hook to the body in round four, and some sharp punches in round five.
The late point deduction may have been the difference, and “Dinamita” sent the hometown fans home happy with a close decision win.
Sortino New ISKA Oriental Rules Champion
In another title bout, Mikel Sortino of Venezuela captured the ISKA Oriental Rules 67.5 kg Title with a decision victory against Carlos Campos of Spain.
Sortino, a southpaw, was too sharp for Campos, winning the punch exchanges with his quicker hands.
The Venezuelan used his right jab to set up low kicks and punch combinations, and was able to block or parry Campos’s body and front kicks.
There were no knockdowns. Sortino knocked Campos backward with a left hand in round one. Campos became more aggressive later in the bout and fought hard, but Sortino had the advantage in most rounds and won the decision.
