KOK Light Heavyweight Champion Sergej “Kuvalda” Maslobojev now has an official opponent for his GLORY Kickboxing debut on 28 September in Miami, Florida.
The Lithuanian champion will face America’s John King in a three-round light heavyweight (95 kg) bout taking place as part of the GLORY 68 preliminary card streaming live on YouTube.
The 32-year-old Maslobojev makes his GLORY debut in the midst of a lengthy reign as KOK champion, and going 2-0 in ONE Super Series competition in 2018. The Lithuanian “Sledgehammer” hasn’t lost a kickboxing match since 2017-a majority decision loss to Czech Ondrej Hutnik in Prague.
Maslobojev has competed this year in both kickboxing in MMA. He stopped Glory veteran Fraser Weightman in 2 rounds in March, then beat Nicolai Garbuz in an MMA bout in May. The bouts took place at KOK and MMA Bushido events held in Vilnius, Lithuania. It was expected Maslobojev would return to MMA this year with the Rizin organization, but he appears to be recommitted to kickboxing.
King is an MMA and kickboxing competitor fighting out of Oklahoma. He competed once for the Bellator promotion, and has a respectable MMA ledger of 6-5, according to MMA record-keeping site Tapology.
King, 37, hasn’t fared as well in Glory. He’s 0-2 in the GLORY ring with losses to Thiago Silva and Chris Camozzi.
In other GLORY 68 news, the promotion officially announced unbeaten Mexican featherweight (65 kg) Abraham Vidales will meet veteran Justin Greskiewicz as part of the GLORY 68 Superfight Series.
