German K-1 legend Stefan Leko will return to the ring at the MFC gala on 22 June in Kassel, Germany. Leko is scheduled to face Marinko Neimarevic of Croatia. MFC announced the bout on social media yesterday.
Leko is one of the better-known German kickboxers internationally. “Blitz” competed for K-1 in its Golden Era, and has faced many of the biggest and best names in the sport, including Ernesto Hoost, Peter Aerts, Remy Bonjasky, and the late and great Andy Hug. He knocked out a young Badr Hari, but Hari avenged that loss a few months later.
Now 44, his last big bout was against Zabit Samedov in 2014. Zabit stopped Leko in the first round with a high kick.
Leko previously defeated Neimarevic in a WKA title fight in 2012, so there’s some unfinished business in the rematch.
