TNA Fights, the promoter of the annual Tatneft Cup tournament, announced yesterday that top heavyweight Roman Kryklia has applied to participate in the 2019 event. Kryklia previously won a Tatneft Cup tournament in 2015.
The 27-year-old Ukrainian is regarded as one of the world’s top heavyweights, and has won multiple tournaments, including the 2015 K-1 World GP 95 kg Championship Tournament in Serbia and the Partouche Kickboxing Tour in France in 2016.
This year, Kryklia made it to the finals of the Kunlun Fight 69 Heavyweight Tournament, but lost a close decision to Iraj Azizpour of Iran. He stopped GLORY veteran Daniel Skvor to win a WAKO title, and also won a four-man tournament at the FEA World Grand Prix event in Moldova in October.
TNA Fights also announced the first Tatneft Cup event of 2019 will take place on 26 February.
Tatneft Cup events are held at the Tatneft Arena in Kazan, Tatarstan, Russian Federation. Each year, the event features top fighters from around the world competing in three different weight categories. The tournament takes place through the course of the year, with fighters competing in qualifying events, before the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals.
