Wu Lin Feng to Debut in Philippines

One of the top Chinese kickboxing organizations is undoubtedly Wu Lin Feng. Each year, WLF holds year-long tournaments in China for the WLF Cup, with a group stage followed by semifinals and a final. Unfortunately, it’s tough to keep up with WLF tournaments because the videos are sometimes geoblocked to viewers outside China.

WLF also sends its fighters overseas to compete against fighters from other countries. WLF fighters have traveled to Las Vegas, Toronto, Romania, and even Athens earlier this year for a Golden Fighter/Gods of War event. Last month, Russian organization Orion Awards collaborated with WLF on an event in Moscow.

Wu Lin Feng is now set to debut in the Philippines. The Manila Standard reports WLF in association with local promoter MSM Promotions is holding an event on 23 October at the Cove in the Philippine capital of Manila.

According to the article, it’s “the first-ever professional kickboxing competition” ever held in the Philippines, and is sanctioned by the country’s Games and Amusements Board.

WLF star Fu Gaofeng meets Philipp Engeroff of Germany in the main event. The theme of the fight card is “China against the Rest of the World.”.

Gorlov MMA Bout Postponed

Latvian light heavyweight Artur Gorlov announced on social media his MMA bout with Russian boxing standout Dmitry Kudryashov has been postponed.

Kudryashov, a high-level boxer who challenged for a cruiserweight world title, was set to make his MMA debut against Gorlov, who went 1-2 in MMA between 2010 and 2013.

The Gorlov-Kudryashov bout was scheduled to take place on 12 October for the Fight Nights Global promotion. According to the Latvian, the bout has been “postponed for an indefinite period.”

Gorlov said he is still in the gym working hard, “which means there will be news soon.”

Barke Wins WLC Debut

British kickboxing standout Nicola Barke won her debut bout in the World Lethwei Championship last Friday in Myanmar.

The kickboxing banker defeated Bianka Balajti of Hungary via unanimous decision in the co-main event of the WLC 9: Fearless Tigers event.

For Barke, the victory must have been like a dream come true. Her mother is from Myanmar, and Barke wanted to compete in the Burmese sport of lethwei to honor her family heritage. Her mother even flew from England to Myanmar to watch her daughter fight.

Barke is a top-five ranked kickboxer under K-1 rules in the U.K. She won a four-woman tournament at SFS VI last year, and has also competed for the EM Legend promotion in China.
