Karate Combat will return in July, according to a press release. The professional karate organization held an exciting first event Karate Combat: Inception in April. That event has become an online hit, with over one million views on the Karate Combat apps and partner platforms such as YouTube and Fite TV, according to the organization.
Karate Combat bouts feature fights between top level karateka. The rules are a hybrid of MMA and kickboxing, with smaller gloves than kickboxing, single leg take downs and throws permitted, and a fighter who takes his or her opponent down can engage in ground and pound for 5 seconds. No submissions, uppercuts, or low kicks between the knee and hip are allowed. The bouts are held in the “Karate Combat Fighting Pit”.
The July event will stream from Europe with no city mentioned in the release. The next event will be executive produced by four-time Emmy winner Jon Gerstel. Mr. Gerstel, who has worked on major sporting events such as the Olympics, has joined Karate Combat as Executive Producer of live events.
