It was supposed to be a homecoming of sorts for Giannis Skordilis.
The Luton, U.K. based fighter hasn’t fought in his native Greece for 3 years, and was scheduled to face Giannakis Papadopoulos for the KGP Greece title in Athens on Sunday.
“Greekboy” will have to wait a little longer for the homecoming fight.
Today, it was announced the fight is off because Papadopoulos suffered a leg fracture. Skordilis made the announcement on social media earlier.
According to Skordilis, the promoter tried to find a replacement for Papadopoulos but five different opponents didn’t fancy the fight with less than a week’s notice. Storm Gym coach Amir Subasic confirmed the promoter couldn’t find a substitute.
Skordilis is currently the second-ranked 70 kg fighter in the U.K., and the Road to Glory 2 eight-man tournament champion.
Storm Gym management is working on his next fight, and he should be back in the ring soon.
