The rumored clash between former welterweight champion Murthel Groenhart and popular newcomer Mohamed Jaraya was officially announced for Glory 59 today by Glory’s social media team.
Glory 59 takes place on Saturday September 29 at the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam.
The fight will be Groenhart’s first contest since losing the welterweight title to Harut Grigorian by stunning first round knockout at Glory 50 in February. Groenhart was favored to win that bout, but he was caught with some big shots early and was stopped on a TKO.
Jaraya has also been inactive. The Dutch-Moroccan youngster was scratched from the Glory 53 event in Lille, France in May because of injury. Recently, Jaraya had to appear in court and received conditional sentences for a pair of assault charges stemming from separate altercations, according to a Dutch publication.
The winner of the Groenhart-Jaraya clash figures to be near the front of the line to receive a title shot. Former champion Cedric Doumbe is currently ranked number one, with Azerbaijan’s Alim Nabiyev number two.
