GLORY Kickboxing released the full fight card for its upcoming 28 September debut in Miami, Florida. Opponents have yet to be confirmed for two fighters, but the remaining bouts on the fourteen-match fight card are now finalized.
It’s a solid fight card, with a number of interesting story lines.
Pereira Moving Up to Light Heavyweight
After successfully defending the GLORY Middleweight Title four times, reigning champion Alex Pereira is moving up to test the waters at light heavyweight against second-ranked contender Donegi Abena. The bout is for the organization’s interim light-heavyweight title, with champion Artem Vakhitov sidelined after hand surgery.
Pereira has scored three knockouts in his four title defenses at middleweight, two of them coming in the first round. It will be interesting to see if his punches, kicks, and knees will have the same impact against heavier opponents.
Abena is a worthy foe for Pereira’s light heavyweight debut. The Surinamese contender came close to defeating Vakhitov in a split decision defeat in May, and showed he’s a high-level fighter with wins against Luis Tavares, Andrei Stoica, and Michael Duut.
Two top American prospects, featherweight Asa Ten Pow and welterweight Troy Jones, will face opponents from across the pond.
Ten Pow meets former contender Bailey Sugden while Jones faces his stablemate Ammari Diedrick. Sugden represents a step up in competition for Florida’s Ten Pow, who’s looked impressive in going 5-0 in his first year in the organization.
Jones looked sensational in a stoppage win against Casey Greene, then followed up with a points win over fellow top-ten contender Omari Boyd.
Diedrick got his GLORY career off to a good start, winning a split decision over Germany’s Dani Traore at GLORY 65 in May.
Lithuanian Sledgehammer Invades Miami
KOK Light Heavyweight Champion Sergej “Kuvalda” Maslobojev makes his GLORY debut at the event. Maslobojev will face an opponent to be confirmed as part of the GLORY 68 Superfight Series.
van Soest Returns
The GLORY 68 Superfight series is headlined by a bout between former super bantamweight champions Tiffany van Soest and Jady Menezes. The two were supposed to meet at GLORY 67 in July, but the bout was postponed after van Soest was diagnosed with a “slight” detached retina during a pre-fight medical.
Three Women’s Bouts on Card
Fans of female kickboxing are in for a treat, as three super-bantamweight bouts are scheduled for the GLORY 68 event.
In addition to the van Soest-Menezes scrap, Brazilian prospect Aline Pereira makes her GLORY debut.
Pereira, sister of Alex Pereira, faces Chomanee, a veteran from Thailand with over 100 fights on her record.
Teenage phenom Rebekah Irwin meets MMA and Muay Thai fighter Crystal Lawson as part of the GLORY 68 Prelims.
