Former Enfusion champion Redouan Laarkoubi announced on social media yesterday that he won’t fight again in 2018 while he battles depression. Laarkoubi, the promotion’s former 75 kg champion, said he was diagnosed with the condition back in April. He kept the information from his fight team and friends. He now wants to acknowledge the disease as part of the recovery process.
Laarkoubi won the title from Nordin van Roosmalen on a close decision in February, but lost the belt to Aziz Kallah in his first title defense. Laarkoubi was knocked down and outpointed by Endy Semeleer in a non-title bout, and also lost a decision last month to Iran’s Mohammadraza Khatami.
Best of luck and well wishes to Laarkoubi, who is a class act and exciting fighter.
