Longtime fans of the sport will remember Murat Direkci, the former It’s Showtime 70 kg champion and K-1 Max veteran.
The Turkish-Belgian fighter was one of the best 70 kg fighters in Europe roughly a decade ago, and faced a number of top names including Artur Kyshenko, Albert Kraus, and Robin van Roosmalen.
After GLORY Sports International acquired the It’s Showtime promotion, Direkci competed on a couple of early GLORY events then stopped fighting, although he’s still been active in the sport cornering fighters.
On 2 November, Direkci, 33, is making a return to the ring. Antwerp Fight Organisation, the Enfusion co-promoter in Belgium, announced the fighter’s comeback bout Friday.
The promotion didn’t announce Direkci’s opponent for his ring return. It did state “We bring him back in the ring so that young fans get the chance to experience the glory times of old.” (translated)
