Former Champion Heads Russian Republic

Former WAKO and W5 World Champion Batu Khasikov is the new head of the Russian Republic of Kalmykia, the RT news site reports.

Khasikov, 38, was appointed to the position by the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin.

According to the news story, Kalymkia is “best known as being Europe’s only Buddhist republic. It has a population of just under 300,000, and is bordered by the Caspian Sea to the south.”

Khasikov had an excellent career in the ring. In addition to winning the titles mentioned above, he defeated K-1 Max 2002 GP Champion Albert Kraus, Warren Stevelmans, “Iron” Mike Zambidis, and also Gago Drago.

His last listed bout took place in 2014-a five round split decision win over Zambidis. The bout was a rematch of a previous title bout won by Khasikov.
