Zaur Dzhavadov, the popular fighter from Latvia, returns to the ring Saturday to challenge for a European title.
Dzhavadov faces Jozef Kolodzej, a Slovakian national champion in a five-round middleweight contest for the WKN Europe championship in Riga.
The fight is part of a boxing/MMA/kickboxing gala promoted by the LNK organization. FightBox HD will broadcast the event internationally (subscription required).
Dzhavadov is the former KOK World Welterweight champion. He won the belt from Sergei Morari of Moldova, but was stripped of the belt last October when he was unable to defend against Constantin Rusu.
Dzhavadov experienced vision problems (diplopia), and didn’t receive medical clearance to fight. Rusu won the vacant title against a late substitute and is the reigning KOK Welterweight Champion.
The vision problems are seemingly behind him. Dzhavadov went to Thailand and Switzerland to get ready for his return fight.
The fighter is well known in Latvia, and even appeared in a Nike promo in his country.
