Buakaw Banchamek, the Thai legend and winner of the K-1 Max GP in 2004 and 2006, will face Chinese Kung Fu warrior Yi Long in a KO-only match for the Martialism Square (MAS) Fight organization. A press conference was held Monday in Bangkok.
MAS Fight matches feature a unique rule set.
A fighter can only win by KO. Fights consist of a single nine-minute round. Knees, punches, kicks, elbows, and throws are all legal. If a fighter is knocked down three times, it’s considered a knockout.
The gloves used are bigger than MMA but smaller than regular kickboxing gloves-the weight is 5 ounces.
MAS Fight previously held an event in November where Yi Long defeated Korean giant Hong Man Choi. There were some top level fighters on the first card, including former Enfusion champion Ismael Lazaar.
The promotion did not announce the venue for the Buakaw-Long fight, which is slated for the end of April. According to MAS Fight, there is more than one party interested in holding the event.
