Top rated GLORY heavyweight contender Jamal Ben Saddik wants his title shot.
“The Goliath”, who earned the number one ranking with his victory in the eight-man tournament at GLORY 62 last December, posted on his Instagram account today asking the organization when he’ll face champion Rico Verhoeven.
“Clean as always. Now again the focus. And prepare for my promised title fight. #GLORY …. DATE?!?,” Ben Saddik wrote (translated).
The clean comment is likely in reference to the statement GLORY released over Easter weekend. The organization announced heavyweight contenders Badr Hari and Mladen Brestovac along with light heavyweight Ariel Machado accepted punishments for failed doping tests.
Hari received an 18-month suspension, while Machado’s penalty was 20 months. Brestovac received a reprimand but no suspension.
Ben Saddik injured his hand during the GLORY 62 tournament, where he defeated Junior Tafa, Guto Inocente, and Benjamin Adegbuyi to earn top contender status and prize money.
Now the Moroccan appears ready to go back into training camp to face rival Verhoeven in a rubber match.
Ben Saddik defeated Verhoeven back in 2011, but Verhoeven avenged the loss with a fifth-round stoppage win at GLORY 49 in December 2017.
Whether the rematch will take place soon is anyone’s guess. Verhoeven is reportedly a free agent, and neither GLORY nor Verhoeven has announced a new contract yet.
