In the highly anticipated match up between two of the best 70 kg kickboxers in the world, Giorgio Petrosyan turned back the challenge of Chingiz Allazov, winning a unanimous decision Saturday in Rome.

Petrosyan knocked down Allazov late in the first round with a left hand. The Italian-Armenian connected with some good punches, and had a good fourth round. Allazov scored with some leg kicks, and a few solid punches. There were some close rounds, and Petrosyan took the decision by scores of 49-46 twice and 50-44. Petrosyan, who has not lost since a crushing defeat to Andy Ristie in 2013, is now 88-2-2. Allazov’s record slips to 60-3. Belarus’s Allazov had a 28 fight unbeaten streak before Saturday’s loss.

Gabriel Varga def. Kevin Ross-KO1 (Varga wins Bellator Featherweight Title)
Canadian Varga is once again wearing championship gold. The former Glory featherweight champion won the Bellator title with a convincing first round knockout win of America’s Ross.

Varga followed a knee to the body with a left hook upstairs that made Ross wobbly. The Canadian followed up, with some punches getting through before a right hand upstairs stiffened Ross. Ross was out on his feet and rescued by referee Dr. Dave Smith. The official time of the stoppage was 2:09. Varga improves to 16-6 with the win. Ross is now 33-11.

“This was a good camp. As a pro fighter, you go through ups and downs,” Varga said in his post fight interview with Big John McCarthy. “My first Bellator fight (a split decision loss to Gabor Gorbics) was disappointing. Adjusting to the European time difference threw me off. So this time we came over, (we) took a couple of extra days.”

“I wanted to be the best fighter I could tonight in the ring, and show the world I belong in the top 5,” he said.

Martine Michieletto (ITA) def. Gloria Peritore (ITA)- Unanimous Decision 56.5kg
Michieletto prevailed over Peritore in a battle of two Italian contenders. The southpaw used her reach effectively, and the shorter Peritore had trouble getting inside. The judges’ scores were 29-28 twice and 30-27. Michieletto’s record improves to 24-3-11 with the win. Peritore is now 16-1-5.

Gaston Bolanos (USA) def. Domenico Lomurno (ITA)-Unanimous Decision 65kg
Bolanos, born in Peru but living and training in the U.S., improved his record to 12-1 with an impressive performance against Lomurno. Bolanos showed quick hands and put his combinations together nicely. In the third round, he seemed to be wearing down the tough Italian. Lomurno is now 31-9.

Raffaele Vitale def. Mattia Faraoni (ITA)-Majority Decision 91kg
