Nicola Barke, one of the top female fighters in the U.K., will face Katie Rand at the MTGP 24 event taking place on 6 April in London. The fighter made the announcement on social media.
Barke has been quiet thus far in 2019 after an outstanding 2018 campaign. “The Burmese Python” made her pro debut for EM Legend last year, and defeated a Chinese opponent with over 20 fights experience. In the summer, she won a four-women tournament at SFS VI, and then captured the WKO British Title with a victory over Claire Marie Clements.
Barke is currently ranked second in the 63 kg weight category behind reigning KGP champion Niamh Kinehan.
Kinehan competed in the Kunlun Fight women’s tournament last year, and was recognized as the top female kickboxer in the U.K. in 2018.
The winner of the bout between Barke and Rand, who is ranked fourth, should face Kinehan for the title and bragging rights for top female fighter at 63 kg in the U.K.
Barke fights out of the highly-regarded Storm Gym in Luton. She is coached and managed by “Alpha Storm” Amir Subasic.
