Former GLORY lightweight champion Andy “The Machine” Ristie has reached an agreement to compete for the Kunlun Fight organization. The Chinese promotion announced the signing early Wednesday.
The Suriname slugger, now 36 years of age, has been out of the ring since an April 2015 decision loss to Robin van Roosmalen. He parted ways with Glory after the bout, and there were periodic reports of a Ristie comeback but nothing materialized.
Kunlun Fight stated the following regarding the Ristie signing:
“We proudly announce that we officially reached agreement with Andy “Machine” Ristie at the beginning of the year 2019, and the fans will be expecting him back in the actions very soon on Kunlun Fight. He’s very likely to fight in the “Clash of Titans”, Kunlun trademark 70kg year-round tournament that has the highest profiled talents in the world’s most competitive category.”
Ristie was a force in the 70 kg weight category for years until his hiatus. He will always be known for one of the greatest single night tournament performances in kickboxing history. In November 2013 at GLORY 13 in New York, the hard-hitting Ristie knocked out Italian legend Giorgio Petrosyan and Robin van Roosmalen in the same night to win the lightweight tournament and capture the vacant title.
No mention was made of when Ristie will debut for Kunlun Fight.
Ristie told Dutch martial arts website Vechtsport Info NL that his contract with Kunlun Fight is for 5 years, and he chose Kunlun Fight over the One Championship organization.
